Recycling

The fallacy of recycling according to popular thinking seems to be three-fold:

  1. It assumes everything can be cleanly and efficiently recycled.
  2. It assumes there’s an economic or societal need for the by-products of recycling.
  3. It assumes that recycling somehow negates over-consumption.

We need to recycle, yes, but we also just need to consume less.
